Southern Star Brewing Company - Valkyrie Double IPA
This is another beer I chose because of a beautiful can design. The beer pours a golden brown color and hoppy tropical fruit aromas fill the air. The taste follows suit with a nice sweet malt backbone and a smoky aftertaste that lingers nicely. A beautiful beer in a beautiful can.

Deschutes Inversion IPA This beer smells just like I expect an IPA to smell - with slightly tropical, citrus and pine hop aromas. The flavor is sweet with a hint of malt putting most of the spotlight on the delicious hops. Good stuff! 7/10

Deschutes Brewery - Jubelale
One of my favorites! I was delighted to see it’s that time of year again. This beer has a delightful clove and banana aroma. The flavor is a slightly bitter, and medium-light bodied ale. The hop is well balanced with a warming toasted sugar flavor. It’s an odd mix of flavors, but somehow it’s just right! 9/10

No-Li Brewhouse Jet Star Imperial IPA

I hate to admit it, but I was lured in by the pretty bottle this time.

Sadly, when I cracked open the bottle, the disappointment began. Light straw and spice aroma. The hops are definitely subdued in this one, especially for an Imperial IPA. The hops are buried in a crisp taste with a very sweet maltiness. There is a bit of tropical fruit flavor on the finish.

Overall, I am disappointed. Not the nuanced hoppy Imperial I was hoping for…

Fort Collins Brewery - 1900 Amber
1900 has a nice Mild floral aroma. The body is nice and light with a slightly bitter biscuity malt. The aftertaste is nice and light. Ambers aren’t my favorite, and this one is a bit run-of-the-mill.

Fort Collins Brewery - Major Tom’s Pomegranate Wheat
I love variety packs. I haven’t had much from Fort Collins, so I thought I’d give it a try. What could go wrong? Oh…pomegranate wheat, that’s what.
This beer smells wheat-y, with a hint of straw. I can taste a hint of pomegranate juiciness, but it comes across more as a tart sweetness to the usual wheat beer. I guess this ones okay, when it comes to fruity wheat beers, but if your competition is a Mohawked Citrus… 2/10

Sierra Nevada & Bells - Maillard’s Odyssey Imperial Dark Ale

This is the end of my beer camp box, and what a great way to end. I’ve been pulling bottles at random, so it’s surprising to get one I’m sure I’ll love at the end.

Maillad’s pours a jet black color and smells like a fruitier stout. The taste has a bit of hop to it, but the malt is the real story. There’s a bit of everything here, with a chocolaty coffee flavor that lingers. Yum yum yum!

Sierra Nevada & Ballast Point - Electric Ray India Pale Lager

I was delighted to see a collaboration between Ballast Point, but an IPL….well, maybe my expectations were tempered. Electric Ray has a nice floral aroma when poured out. The flavor adds a citrus hop taste and a lighter lager “crispness” and malt structure. It’s got a clean, hoppy aftertaste. While a stellar IPL, it just isn’t my cup of tea…

Sierra Nevada & Cigar City - Yonder Bock Tropical Maibock
Very light earthy hop aroma on this beer with more of a sweet caramel smell. The taste is light and delicious with a fruity yet earthy hop character that somehow meshes incredibly with a rich caramely toasty malt backbone and gives a fantastic aftertaste. This almost tastes like a light Barleywine. Yum!

Sierra Nevada & Russian River Brewing - Yvan the Great Belgian Style Blonde
This is an interesting collaboration — once again, I really like both brewers.
Yvan pours the expected flaxen-blonde color and smells like a Belgian-style brew, with banana and clove scents. The flavor has hints of hop, but nothing overpowering - it all just…fits…with the beer. A nice smooth malty aftertaste finishes the taste. Not normally my style of choice, but, wow. Good stuff.

Flying Dog Brewing - Raging Bitch Belgian-Style IPA
Normally, I’m not a fan of Belgian-style IPAs, but there’s something about this one. Piney citrus aroma and flavor to this beer, which nicely compliments the spicy Belgian yeast flavor. Good stuff. 7/10

Another interesting beer. Normally, I steer clear of Belgian-Style Pale Ales, but I like both producers here. This one smells lightly of pine & floral hops. Deschutes Brewery - Fresh Squeezed IPA Anytime I’m within the distribution range of Deschutes, I pick up a bottle. This fresh hopped IPA did not disappoint. The aromas of citrus and tropical fruit are immediately apparent when you crack the bottle open. The flavor is more fruit, with a taste that’s almost too sweet. Great smooth finish to this one as well. A delicious beer! 8/10
